the shape and timing of shape of sacrum

Summary of the shape and timing of shape of sacrum

Abstract

Sacrum, located in the center of pelvis, is a special bone. it has individual and difference of gender , the five separate bones do not fully joint until the early twenties, when the growth period ends.

Due to the characteristics of sacrum, the way you spend your growing years will cause the shape of pelvis, which moreover will cause  full body balance.

(A serious injury during the period of skeletal immaturity is a risk that will be able to wrap the full skeletal balance for the rest of one's life. For example, you may suffer from back pain caused by balance that you appeared  your student days for the rest of your life.)

1.Bone and sacroiliac ligament

Comparison of sacrum (human and ape)

Compared to when we were apes. The distance between  hip joint and sacrum is shorter

1. bone and sacroiliac ligament

The anterior part of sacroiliac joint is shaped in such a way that sacrum and ilium can be jointed that they are tightly.

The back part of it is structured by the sacroiliac ligament which is  be strong  in the ligaments and the posterior sacroiliac ligament which supports the joint from behind.

Note that the cartilage in sacroiliac joint is 1-3 mm in adults, and sacral side is 2 to 3 times thicker than iliac side.

However, it is the strong ligament and the need to support the large surface of iliac, it has the disadvantage of being prone to disability caused by misalignment of the joint.

・The sacrum (sacroiliac joint)  is adapted to bipedal

humans have evolved to reduce the distance between the hip joint and the sacrum (sacroiliac joint), that due to make walking smoother, to reduce the risk of disability caused by running. While quadrupeds like dogs and cats support their body weight at the hip joint, humans are designed to support its at the sacrum (sacroiliac joint).

2.Innervation

Dorsal Nerves and Sacrum

From cervical spine to the nerve line from coccyx

It is well known that the nerves of the back extend from the cervical to the lumbar vertebrae, but less well known is the fact that the sacral vertebrae are connected to the nerves further down.

As the sacral vertebrae always appear in the anatomical chart of nerve control, this notion is essential for understanding the sensations and reflexes of the all body.

The sacrum is classified into five categories (S1 to S5) and is related to the innervation of lower extremities, but human nerve senses still don't make a clear.

Like the spine, the sacrum has an important role in protecting nerves and transmitting information to the brain.

・Parts and names of the spinal

Region Number of
vertebrae
Name
Cervical 7 1st to 7th cervical(C1-C7)
Thoracic 12 1st to 12th thoracic(T1-T12)
Lumbar 5 1st to 5th lumbar(L1-L5)
Sacrum 5 1st to 5th sacral(S1-S5)
Coccyx 4 1st to 4th caudal(Co1-Co4)

3.When sacrum is shaped

Misalignment of Sacrum

Depending on the distortion

Sacrum was originally five bones that are shaped, a single of inverted triangle by the age of 20.

Therefore, the shape of sacrum tends to vary from person depending on their lifestyle up to the age of 20. in many cases, people accumulate sacral misalignments without being aware of the factors causing them.

By the time the skeletal was settled down around the age of 20, the following bad factors may be present. If you have been experiencing these problems for several months or years, you are putting yourself at a disadvantage when growth your skeleton.

・Poor posture
・Unstable eating habits (eccentric eating, overeating, excessive dieting, etc.)
・Disordered lifestyle (insomnia, reversal of day and night, etc.)
・Menstrual problems

If you put a lot of stress on the sacrum during the growth period, it will move the sacroiliac joint in a direction that distorts the balance (distortion of the sacroiliac joint). This creates a vicious cycle and increases discomfort.
